As soon as I saw the rides at the Cinco De Mayo fair, I was taken some years back to my childhood in Slovakia. The colors, the music, the enticing smell of food and just the overall sense of excitement reminded me of that mischievous girl. Sneaking coins from her father’s saving jar and heading excitedly, together with her little brother and her cousins, to the annual village fair. (I know…I am not promoting any kind of “sneaking” hahaha).
The Third Avenue in Chula Vista is closed to cars between G and E street, usually on the first Saturday in May from 11am to 7pm in order to host the Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival. Admission is free to this colorful celebration of Mexican heritage. Walking around, you can find live entertainment, authentic Mexican food, beverages, and crafts, a kids’ fun zone, a singing and dancing contest, and over 300 vendors offering anything from jewelry to Tshirts and temporary tattoos.
If you are a couple with young children, they will no doubt have a blast riding the mini fairground rides and, with a little bit of washable face paint, being transformed into a fairy, a tiger or a superhero under skillful hands of one of the talented artists.
