You can take the girl out of the city but you can’t take the city out of the girl…

I used to be what you call “The ultimate city girl”. Living in the busiest part of the metropolis, the continuous buzz provided me with an incredible comfort. In my apartment overlooking the city; I used to love watching the flickering city lights at night, or the streets stretching far into the distance with pedestrians constantly moving in different directions. I used to love the ever-present hum of traffic and people down below. The faint sound of sirens in the distance. The City was always alive, regardless of the hour. I didn’t even have to look, I could feel it. I watched the City in hot humid days during summers. I saw it in rain or covered in snow in January. Rain or shine, day or night, the City was breathing and embracing me. We had a good relationship, the City and I. The City was there to comfort me when loneliness came by.

Then I met the love of my life… Change came quickly. As I looked through the back window of a taxi heading to the airport that sleepy morning, I said Good Bye to the City. It took some time for me to get used to the quiet little suburban town, 5000 kilometres away, but I never looked back. The City became a distant memory and the little sunny town by the ocean turned out to be my new home. Well maintained houses painted in pastel colors, tall palm trees, flowers and green backyards – that’s what I see all around now when I go for a walk with my lovely husband.

When he suggested we go for a drink on the top floor of the Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, I welcomed the idea. He knows the city girl in me so he planned a romantic evening in an ambiance that immediately transported me to a place I used to call home.

In the classy lounge on the 40th floor, you can sit by the floor-to-ceiling windows and admire the breathtaking panoramic view of the city while sipping your drink. Dimmed lights and soft music in the background add to the stylish ambiance as you look at the city stretching into the distance below. Sitting in comfy chairs, a drink or a gourmet burger in front of you, this place is a perfect setting to admire the sunset with your date in style. The lounge is open between 3.00 pm and 1.30 am.

As I sipped my red wine, looking at the glittering city lights below me, I enjoyed the beautiful view that reminded me of the City. I I realized I didn’t miss any of it at all. I looked at my husband and smiled.
