It was a gorgeous Saturday morning with temperatures in the seventies… We had some errands to run earlier and a party to go to in the evening but I convinced my husband it was too beautiful of a day to pass the opportunity to go to the beach. As we only had a couple of hours to spare, we drove to the nearest one in the area – the Silver Strand Beach.
I am a beach lover; I don’t go very often but when I am there, lying on a blanket by the ocean, I am in my element. The warm sand underneath, the fresh scent of the ocean, the soothing sound of the waves approaching and leaving only to come back again… As I lay down and relax, I look at the sky that could not be any bluer and I am happy. The only way this gets even better is when my hubby is next to me. He prefers to sit in his beach chair, and you will usually find him reading a book or other documents. His mind never stops. That’s how we were yesterday, enjoying a day that was perfect for a beach.
This is my first summer in California, and I must admit I didn’t realize the traffic on the way to the beach would be so crazy! Yep, it took us at least half hour to find a parking spot as we got closer to the beach. After driving around for a while, we opted to pay a fee to get to the beach parking ($10). Even then, the parking lot seemed to be completely full, but after a little bit of cruising, we finally got out of the car. It seems that a Saturday early afternoon is not the best time to leave your house if you want to avoid the traffic – I would say early in the morning or later in the day will mean less hassle.
In any case, we didn’t let it affect us and soon we were sitting in front of the ocean, eating our sandwiches and drinking orange juice (real oranges) with ice cubes floating in it. The breeze from the ocean kept us cool. The beach was busy – families barbequing, kids building sand castles, groups of young people playing ball, some having fun in the water… The colors, the laughter, the smell of the ocean and a freshly barbequed meat…just another summer day at the beach.
Like other beaches, Silver Strand is a perfect place for swimming, surfing, boating, waterskiing, volleyball, picnicking and other popular summer activities. Restrooms and cold showers are available on each side of the park. Sorry, no doggies allowed on the beach.
Oh, and try to stay away from the dried sea weeds; when children running around disturb the flies, they will come visit you!
