Aaaaaaaaaaaaah…the beaches of Southern California… they never disappoint. The majestic ocean, stretching far into the distance before you, sending waves to your feet with soothing consistency as you sit in the warm sand. I will never tire of the scenery; nothing can compare to the tranquility I can only fully submerge in when I am relaxing by the ocean.
As we got to Solana beach yesterday, we realized there weren’t many people around, perhaps because it’s the end of the summer or maybe the spot we chose just never gets too crowded. In either case; we welcomed the bareness of the beach. All we could hear was the soothing sound of the waves approaching and leaving the shore and an occasional bird calling.
James sat in his beach chair that he prefers, I spread out my blanket in the sand to lay on, and we pulled out books we brought with us to read. But not before I indulged in feeling the sun on my skin, (I applied my Nivea – don’t you just love the scent of sun-screens? ), listening to the waves and inhaling deeply to take in the late-summer scent in the salty air.
James was determined to finish Bartleby the Scrivener, a story I will write an essay on in my English class (you can see his concentration as he sits in the chair). He was not too crazy about the 1800s’ style of writing but I sure appreciated it that he read it so that we can discuss it! The book I brought for me was How to get the Love you want. Intrigued by the concept of childhood wounds and how we try to heal them through our adult relationships, I have chosen the book to write a report on for my Psychology class. I will definitely post the report; I think the book might prove to be a valuable tool in our efforts to learn about one another and understand each other better.
If you long for some tranquility and would like to spend an afternoon listening to the calming hum of the sea, walk along the beach, feeling the sun on your face, then take it easy at Solana beach in Southern California. It will be good for you…
